He was known for his military campaigns aimed at reconquering territories lost to the Arabs, Turks, and John II was also referred to as "John the Beautiful" or "John the Good" and was the eldest son of Alexios I and Irene Doukaina . His reign is noted for significant victories in the Balkans, Armenia, and Asia Minor, contributing to the restoration of the Byzantine Empire during the Komnenian period.
